Morro Bay Art Association is proud to present the art workshop, Byzantine Art Inspired Acrylic Angels by award winning artist, Larry Kappen.

Larry has had a lifelong love of art. He recalls being one of three students, selected by a high school teacher, to reproduce a 12th Century Byzantine Mosaic of Archangel Michael, for a holiday display.  Larry has been creating his own versions of angel icons during the holidays, ever since.  He enjoys the simplicity of painting these timeless pieces, using elaborate patterns, color and texture, with acrylic paint on wood and Masonite panels.

During this workshop, students will create their own Byzantine inspired, original angel acrylic paintings, using a variety of demonstrated techniques.

Larry Kappen earned his Master of Art Degree at California State University, Long Beach. He is a member of California Art Club, Southern California Plein Air Painters Association, San Luis Outdoor Painters for the Environment (SLOPE) and former member of the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society. Larry has exhibited nationally and internationally. His artwork is in private collections in the United States, Italy, Japan and Great Britain.

Larry was an art teacher at the high school, college and university levels.  For 12 years, he participated in the I Madonnari Street Painting Festival in San Luis Obispo.  As a teacher at Santa Maria High School, where he taught for 23 years, Larry initiated the Santa Maria High School mural project. The mural includes over 40 panels depicting reproductions of famous paintings.

Don’t miss this 12th Century Byzantine inspired workshop, painting with acrylic on wood or Masonite panels.
